Pontiac Repair: exhaust heat shield removal, sheet metal screw, rivot

How do you remove the heat shield between the exhaust and gas tank on a 2004 pontiac sunfire? I need to drop the gas tank and it looks like shield has rivets. Any easy way ? Do I need a special tool?

Hi Sharon. Just drill out the rear most pop rivot and then  bend the rest of the shiled out of the way. once your done bend the shiled back up into place and use a sheet metal screw in place of the pop rivot. You con'r need to remove the whole shiled and it bends down and out of the way easy enough. just make sure wne your done it's not rubbing on the echaust or the gas tank.
