Pontiac Repair: possible ground problem, fuse blocks, head gaskets

Question
hello,I have a 97 Pontiac grand am se  3100eng   i paid a friend to replace head gaskets......when he was done, the instrument gauges dont work(fuel, tach, temp, etc)  also, warning lights stay on(check engine, low coolant, etc)and no instrument panel lights.  We checked two fuse blocks and all the fuses were good.    He says its a ground problem but we dont know where all the ground points are. Help please .  i hope this is enough info.   thanks

Answer
Hi Brian:

It could be a ground issue or a pinced wire somewhere. The gounds are on the engine to transmission mounting bolts/studs. They are on the front side of the car between the engine and the radiator. usually the 2 lower bolts have studs and the ground wires are on there. the battery ground attaches to one of them and the other one has the chasis grounds. Also ther is a ground wire from the battery to the body. It's usually on or near the battery tray or on the fender. As far a a pinched harness It could be anywhere near the engine where the work was completed.

Good luck :)
