Pontiac Repair: Interminute Stalling, crank shaft position sensor, pontiac grand prix

Question
Hello, Todd.
Make/Model: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Sedan 3.8L V6
Problem: Every so often, the car will stall while driving. Recently the car stalled, no check engine light came on, RPM gauge dropped to 0, the trac light came on without pushing the button. Weather was dry, so no moisture. This happens when driving about every 20 or so miles at an average speed of around 45 to 60 mph. Once the car stalls, we wait a couple of minutes and it starts right up with no problem and drives well. Then 20 or so miles later, it stalls again.
Please help!!!!

Answer
Hi Rudy:

well it's an electrical issue of some kind. Either a fuel delivery issue or a spark problem. My guess would be you have a crank shaft position sensor that is cutting out. The fact that the TACH drops then it dies is a clue. This is a common issue with teses engines But with out seeing it do it It's hard for anyone to say for sure when it dies Ou You have to see what is missing. The fact that it happens at the same amount of driving maybe you can have a someone drive it or let it run in a repair shop untill it quits running then the technician can see ehat the issue is. Good luck :)
