Pontiac Repair: 2003 Grand Prix 3.1 cyl 6 misfiring?, chevron techron, grand prix 3

Question
I have a 2003 Grand Prix and it has recently started acting up. I was driving home from work this morning and the engine sort up "jumped" then the service engine light came on. I stopped at a garage and they said it might be the spark plugs and wires, or a coil pack. AutoZone also ran the test and said there is a cylinder 6 misfire which could be the spark plugs, wires, or the coil pack. My step dad replaced the plugs and wires earlier this evening and the problem is still there. The car stutters and spits, but does not stall. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am a poor college student and do not have a lot of extra money to spend at a garage finding out the exact problem. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Cassidy:

well in order for an engine to run properly it needs 3 things compression which is a angine mechanical issue, spark and fuel. The mechanical issue would be the last thing to look at.. Looks like you covered your bases on spark except for a coil. make sure that cylinder has spark with a tool called oddly enough a spark checker. Next thing would be fuel You could have an injector that's bad or plugged.. you may want to have the injectors cleaned or try a GOOD quailty injector cleaner in the gas tanks like CHEVRON TECHRON. This cleaner works excellent! lastly would be compression. That would have ro checked with a compressing gauge. That cylinder that is misfiring should be with in 10% PSI of the rest no lower, If so then there is a mechanical issue going on. Good luck :)
