Pontiac Repair: 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix Se 3.1L V6, pontiac grand prix, fuel pressure

Question
My car when it's driven sometimes acts like it's going to stall when my RPM's are around 2000-2500. It does this every so often and when the fuel pressure was checked it drops after some time in idol and with the RPM's up. The fuel pump and fuel filter are about a month or 2 old.

Answer
Hi There:

Well the fact that the fuel pressure is dropping out is a clue to the possable stall. The pressure should stay steady at what ever engine spped your at. If you raidly accelerate the engine the pressure should increase a bit at 4-6 PSI but then drop back down to a steady pressure of around 40-45PSI If it drops much below that the engine will stumble and wnat to stall. So if it peeks and then drops back down to a steady pressure that's normal. If it is dropping out. then you more then likley have a pump that's going bad or a bad power or ground feed to the pump. Good luck :0
