Pontiac Repair: 1993 Pontiac Transport, crankshaft position sensor, pontiac transport

Question
I was driving our 1993 pontiac transport van when stopped at a light it died.  I started it back up and proceeded down the road when it died again.  I started it up again, which took a couple of tries turning the key, I went only a few feet further when it died again.  Repeated tries would not start it again.  A friend thinks this could be the ignition module.  Does this sound correct?

Answer
Hi Mary:

It could be but you need to determine what the engine is missing to make it not run. Is it lacking fuel or spark? or something else mechanical going on. Ignition modules are not all that common on those engines to go bad but I have seen them go bad. I would lean more towards a crankshaft position sensor if it's missing spark. It could have a fule pump that is going/went bad if it's missing fuel. Being that it's almost 17 years old it could be just about anything bad. When it died if it just cut out or did it spit sputter and lack power? If it just cut out I'd lean towards an ingintion system issue it is spit and sputtred I'd lean towards fuel.
Good Luck :)
