Pontiac Repair: A/C not working and outside temp. gauge giving wrong temps., blower motor, polin

Question
I have a 01 Bonneville SLE.  When you turn the A/C on the air is warm and the compressor doesn't come on.  I think it may just need charged, buy what might be the problem if that doesn't work.  I just got the car so I don't know if the air worked before.  Also outside temp reading in my car is way off at times.  I don't know if the sensor outside is bad or if this is somehow connected to the A/C problem.  I was also wondering, my blower motor is unusually loud when turned up to the two highest settings, however the air coming out of the vents don't feel like its blowing as hard as the motor sounds like its blowing.  Would replacing the blower fix that?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer
Hi Michael:

Well I think you have a few issues here. These cars were noted for a few areas that the a/c system would leak out the refigerent. Either the condenser or the a/c compressors would leak. The condensers are VERY common. As for the ambinet temp sensor It does have an effect on the a/c system but if the system is empty that the compressor will not run etc... After a hot soak in the sun or after driving a while when you first start the car the temp reading will tend to be high but after driving a mile or so it should read the acatual ambinet temp. if not the temp sensor is more then likley bad. As for the fan nose with the system in "auto" it may sound loud but the system will tend to blend the airflow out of differnt vent position to try to heat or cool the car so that would be normal as well. But you could have a restriction in the heater box like a build up of tree polin and dirt on the evaporator core. Some of these cars have a air filter in the inlet to the air box for the heater & A/C. it's under the hood on the passenger side. it under a little door by the wipers open the door and take a look and see if indeed it has the filter and if it's plugged with dirt. Good Luck :)
