Pontiac Repair: temp sensor, variable resistor, heated seat

Question
the heated seats have harnesses for the elements, and one for the thermostat bulb, do you know the resistancee that there should be across this lead to force the heated seat on, a dead short doesnt turn on, if not can i run 12 volts right into it to make them work?

Answer
Hi Stephen:

The temp sensors are a variable resistor and the resiatance changes with the ambinet temp in the car so ther is no "set" reeading. The element or sensors are NOT serviced by them self. You have to buy either the seat back or seat cushion elements. On some of the cars the element is actually part of the seat cover. The temp sensor is in the seat back element and the cushion is just the elemnet it's self. Running 12V to it will not work and it will either burn up the element or ever start a fire! NOT A GOOD IDEA!
