Pontiac Repair: Shifter stuck in park, fuse box, body control module

Question
I have a 2002 Aztec, the shifter button will not release so shift the vehicle out of park. I have checked my fuses they are good, any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Rick:

The fuse to look for for that system is labeled BTSI it's in the under hood fuse box. If that fuse is good the next thing to look at would be the shifter it's self. I have seen the wires break off the connector on the shifter and then it's stuck in park. That is common if the SUV has ALOT of miles on it.. other than that you could have a brake lamp switch that is bad and the oh so ever common body control module. That would be the last place I would look but those are pretty common to go bad on these. But ususally they don't cause issues with that there are far more things that would not work other that the shift lock solenoid. Good luck :)
