Pontiac Repair: 98 sunfire oil pan, pontiac sunfire, rear portion

Question
hi, i have a 1998 2 Dr Pontiac sunfire 2.2l 5 speed . i need to replace the oil pan .do i need an oil pan with an Oil Level Sensor Hole or without

Answer
Hi Shawn:

It depends on what options the car came with. some do and some don't. take a look at the oil pan you have now. The sensor sticks out of the side of the pan right by where the starter motor attaches to the engine. If you see a wire harness attached to a sensor it has it. If not it's not equipped with one. I belive that the oil pna on that year car doesn't have a full gasket either. I think just the rear portion of it has a gasket by the transmission and the rest of the pan get RTV sealer to attach it to the engine.
Good luck :)
