Pontiac Repair: 2003 Grand Am wiper problem, haynes manual, clock position

Question
Todd, I have a 2003 Grand Am 4 door sedan, 2.2 4 - cylinder, with wipers that will not park (drop down below the windshield) when turned off.

I have replaced the linkage (broke during a snowstorm).

There are 2 versions due to a factory change, and I have the correct version.

I also replaced the motor at the same time, following the included instructions to set the drive arm on the motor at the 7 o'clock position.

I checked all the voltages + grounds with a DVM & all seem fine.

I purchased a brand - new switch & swapped it out. Same problem. I'm stumped.

The battery seems fine, no starting issues.

According to the Haynes manual I have, there are no micro relays in the circuit.

The wipers function fine, and move through full travel from cowl to edge of windshield, meaning the alignment/adjustment is fine.

They will just not park.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi steve:
what do they do when you turn them off. do the stop where they are when youturn off the switch do that park staright up and down or do they just sit at the bottom of the windshiled and not park on the stops? It can be a few things. if you don't have them timed right they will not park on the stops but will do everything else right maning if you turn off the wipers while they are on the top of the stroke they will move down but not park fully. If they stop dead in the middle of a swipe it can be the motor delay board or the switch. Most likely the delay board for the motor. that is serviced seperatly. If you got an aftermarket motor it may not have the correct delay board for the make, model and year of the car. just because it loos the same doesn't mean the controller inside the delay is the same. Good luck :)
