Pontiac Repair: knock sensor location, knock sensor location, little bugger

I have a 99 grand am with a 2.4L, 4 banger. I need to change out the knock sensor. I know its somewhere on the block. I looked in the chilton and it doesnt give me good idea where it is. Can you help me locate this little bugger ?

Hi Joe:

well it depends on which version of the engine you have. with or without a EGR valve. they are located in the same spot on the back side of the engine block under the exhaust manifoild back by the transmission. on the sensor has just ome wire and it unthreads from the block and one has 2 wires and it held onto the block by a retaining bolt. if you have the one wire sensor make sure not to overtighten the sensor because you will break the contacts inside the sensor!
