Pontiac Repair: engine coolant temperature sensor, coolant temperature sensor, engine coolant temperature sensor

Question
I have a 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1 liter and am wondering where the engine coolant temp. sensor would be located. My car is running a little hot because the fans are not coming on when they should. I have already replaced the fan relays, water pump, themostat and put new fluid in it. I also know that both the fan motors are good because my dad and I took them out put power to them. They worked really well. My only option left is this sensor of which I actually researched through Mitchell ondemand.I just can't find it on my car.

Answer
Hi chris:
I believe that car uses the engine control sensor for the fans as well. That engine actaully has 2 sesnors on is a single wire on the cylinder had back by the fire wall it has a dark green wire. It uses that one for the dash gauge. the engine control sesnor is in the intake manifold and it has 2 wires yellow and black. if you have the aid of a scan tool you can see what that sensor is reading and also you can see in the engine computer is commanding the fans on or not. Without a scan tool it's hard to see/know what is going on. On those older cars a lot of times the fan wouldn't come on untill the car hits at least 225 degrees and the low fan would come on and upwards of 235 before the hi fan would come on. Good luck :)
