Pontiac Repair: Pontiac Grand Prix Air conditioning problem, pontiac grand prix, fuse block

Question
Hello,

I have a 2001 Pontiac grand prix, 3.8L V6 3800 series.
I have not checked the temperature of the air coming out of the vents but it seems very cool when I have the air on. The problem is that the air conditioner shuts off when my lights turn on. I have checked under the hood and the clutch disengages when the lights are turned on, and re-engages when they are turned off again.
I am the original owner and have never had a problem up until now.
Any idea on what the problem would be?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Brian.

You either have a bad ground connection or a bad power feed and when you turn on the headlamps it's robbing the a/c system of it's power or ground. check the fuses in the underhood fuse block with the lamps on and then with them off My bet is when the lamps are turned on the voltage on the a/c cluth fuse drops down or to nothing. These cars are noted for ignition switch issues and/or a power feed to the ignition swithc through the pass thru from under the hood into the passenger compartment under the glove box area. Good luck :}
