Pontiac Repair: 1998 Grand Am SE 3.1 V6, auto parts stores, wheel speed

Question
There is two things the first is I cant remove the key unless I use the override button under the steering column and the second is the ABS and brake light come on when I drive after i start the car and stay on. Any ideas?

Hi Michael:

as for the key issue more than likely the shifter assembly is bad there is a switch in the shifter that energizes the key lock solenoid in the column and maybe that switch is bad on the shifter. As for the abs issue with out knoing what code(s) are in the system I can't telkl you what that issue is. go to one of the big box auto parts stores and they will scan you car for codes for free. My guess is a wheel speed sensor code of some kind. Good luck :)
