Pontiac Repair: 2004 sunfire starting problem, sunfire alternator

Question
Okay my sunfire battery light came on in the dash during the drive to work. Went to work and started the car for lunch with no issue. Still seemed okay. However when I went to see if it would start after 3-5 minutes it wouldn't. So I left my car for lunch, took the bus to work came back and it started again. However same problem occured. After turning off it would not start after a short period of time past. Seems to run okay when does start. Just having issues re-starting over short periods of time. Like the battery can only hold so much power for one good start.

Answer
Hi Steven:

The battery lamp on the dash means that the alternator is not charging the battery back up. 9 out of 10 times the issue is with the aletrnator it's self and not the wiring to it or the control module for the alternator. More than likely the reason it will not run is there is not enough power left in the battery to run the cars fuel pump and ignition system. If you don't live that far from work you may be able to jump start the car and leave the battery connected to the jumping car for a while and put enough power back into the battery to get you home but I don't recommend it. If this car has the original battery in it still you may want to replace the battery as well. You could also put in a new batetry and drive it home or to the repair shop and it might make it there untill the new battery is drained down Again I don't advise it but it can be done. Good luck :)
