Pontiac Repair: 1994 Pontiac Bonnevilles headlights remain on after turning ignition off., pontiac bonneville, fuse box

QUESTION: I have a 1994 Pontiac Bonneville that after driving and turning the ignition off, the headlights remain on. I have replaced the switch and still same problem. I understand that there is a headlight module under the center of the dash mounted to the firewall however, the only thing that seems to be visible in that location is the S.I.R. control module. Can you tell me if the heater box has to be removed to gain access to it? Thanks

ANSWER: Hey Gregg:

No you don't have to remove the heater box to gain access to that lamp module. There is an extension on the bottom of the heater box that has the floor vents on it. that is attached to the bottom of the heater box with I think 2 or 3 screws and that vent extension comes off and you can wiggle the module out of the way. I have seen those modules go bad a lot. I have also seen the one connector on the module melt. so take a good long look at the connectors when you unplug them from the module. Too much of a draw or a loose connection in one of the terminlas maes the connector over heat and melt.

QUESTION: Thanks for the info however, after removing the heater extension, there still is no sign of the module. I have the replacement module that was ordered from GM and it's quite large (8" x 4 1/2") with two connection points on it. I see nothing that resembles this and quite frankly can't see how it would fit in such a place. Can you provide any additional input as to where it actually is located? Thanks for all your help.

hi Greg I looked in a service manula at work today and where I told you was incorrect for that year. That is where it is from 1996 and up. On the older ones it's in the dash board on the left side of the steering column above the pull down fuse box. Again like I did mention in the previous answer make sure that the connectors are not melted or show any sign of heat damage. Good luck :}
