Pontiac Repair: ignition lock cylinder, pontiac grand am, lock smith

I have a 2004 pontiac grand am gt, v6.  i put my key in the ignition and it will not turn.  it chimes to let me know its in and the antitheft light flashes on the dash but it will not turn.  also my steering wheel will not lock.  isnt it supposed to.

Hi Danny:

No the steering whell doesn't lock on that car due to the key being in the dash board. If the key will not turn in the ignition the lock cylider is bad Either the tumblers for the cylider are sticking or the retainer that holds them into the cylinder poped out. either way that is a job for a lock smith or the dealer to repair. ther is a special proceedure neede to remove the lock cylider if the key can't be turned.
