Pontiac Repair: runs hot, pontiac bonneville sse, pontiac bonneville

Question
Hello, this is about a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville,SSE,V-6,3.8L with 188,000 miles+ on it. The car had been sitting up and not cranked for @3 months. The oil and filter was changed. The radiator had old rust water and antifreeze in it. We noticed that the blower motor for the A/C or heater would not blow.  We(friend and I) flushed the system out and put half a gallon of antifreeze and water back in. The temperature gauge went to @220 degrees after it was running a while(it stayed in that range, roughly). We replaced the thermostat and gasket. Still, the same thing, @ 220 and stayed there. Is this the normal operating range for this engine? And is this a car that must have premium gas for it to get good mileage? If 220 is not the normal range for it, please let us know the Norms.
Thank-you in advance that you or anyone else who can help out.

Answer
Hi Rodney:
Yes that is a normal range for tempature. The electric cooling fan for the radiator usually will come on at about 225. so 220 is not out of the normal range. if it creeps up whil in traffic and doesn't come down then you have another issue of some kind. as for the gas if it's not a super charged engine just the normal 3.8 liter then 87 octane fuel is all you need.
