Pontiac Repair: DRL, head lamp, wire harness

Question
I have a 2000 sunfire the right head lamp is dim even with a new bulb installed, here whats happening, when putting the car in gear the drl are suppose to come on but they don't from that point the drl tell tale light blinks many times and then the service light comes on and stays on'

I have checked the fuses the drl relay and the wiring to both headlamps there all OK.

Oh BTW when you put it in gear and the DRL's try to come on you can here the DRL relay click many times which is at the same time as the tell tale light.

Many thanks
Mike

Answer
Hey Mike:

The problem with this car is a wire harness issue. one or more of the splice connection in the forward lamp harness have corrosion in them. there are like 3 or 4 of them. I can't tell you which one it is but if you take that harness out of the car you will find it the splices are in the harnness under the left head lamp area and also where the harness wraps around behind the washer bottle.. one or more of them have gone bad. This is VERY common especially if you live in the rust belat area like I do. My suggestion to you is this if you plan on keeping the car get a new harness altogether or one from a junk yard with low milage that had rear end damage. onece you start playing around in there you will have issue after issue with this. all it takes is to skin the insulation off one of the wires and in 6 months you will have the same issue all over again. Good luck :}
