Pontiac Repair: brake light/turnsignal problem, turn signal switch, brake light switch

Question
Ok got a good one for ya.  I have an 87 Pontiac trans am and this is a unique problem I havent dealt with before.  The left side brake lights do not work but the right does, and the turn signals for the back on the left do not work as well.  I have checked everything, but heres the strange happenings.  I have power going to the harness for the tail lights, The first time this happened I jiggled a wire on the emergency flasher and the brake and turn lights in back started working for a while then quit. Replaced the flasher, didn't help, replaced brake light switch-didn't help. On that car being an auto with no cruise It has a different brake light switch with an extra 2 wire plug on it with a purple wire and pink/blackstripe wire on it, I wiggled it and the brake lights came on for that side and worked until I tried to put the switch back in and then it quit. and to add to it, I noticed the third brake light wasn't working and I tapped the housing for it and it came back on along with the non working left lights and they he 3rd kept working and the left side went back out. I'm lost on it. appreciate what you can do for me.

Answer
Hi Don:

where's whatI would check first off. The turn siganl switch may be youe issue. the brake lamps and turn signals on that ware I belive uses the same bulb filiment. see if you have brake switch input into the switch but not out of it. If that is the case that the turn signal switch is the issue. Yes it's wierd I know but I have seen it happen before. As for the High mount stop lamp that is a different issue un to it's self. I'm not sure but I belive that had it's own seperate power feed to it. As a back up say the contact burnt out for the low stop lamps at least the high mount would would still work. Also make sure you have the correct stop lamp switch for this car. Get one from the dealer that way you will get the correct part! Good luck :}
