Pontiac Repair: 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix SE, pontiac grand prix, fog lamps

Question
from time to time when I start my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix my dim headlights wont work.  I have my headlights set to Auto and when the dims do not work the brights work as well as the turn signal and the fog lamps.  I had the multi-function switch replaced today and within hours the dim headlights didn't work.  Any suggestions on what else it could be?

Answer
Hi Sara:
what do you man by dim head lamps? The daytime running lamps that are on during the day? or are you having an issue with the hi/lo beam headlamps? What happens? Do they cut out all together? do the auto headlamps come on when they shouldn't? A good way to tell is if the auto lamps come on during the day the digital lamps in the insterment cluster and the radio diaplay will dim down when the auto headlamps come on. If this is the case I would suspect that you may have a photo cell sensor for the auto headlamps going bad or an issue with the body control module. Does this happen in the hight of the day time or does it have at dusk or early in the AM? is there anything on the dash that could be obstructin that lamp sensor like hats, sunglasses toll booth tickets, tags from parking garages etc that could be blocking the sensor?
