Pontiac Repair: Pontiac Sunfire Water Outlet, pontiac sunfire gt, 1997 pontiac sunfire

I have a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire GT with the 2.4 liter (quad 4) motor.  I had a water leak on the water outlet and replaced it, but it still leaks.  The new outlet came with an o-ring, but is there another gasket that is supposed to go on also ?  Have I missed something ?

Hi Mike:

No the water outlet only has an o-ring on it. That is if this is the plastic style outlet. If it is still leaking then there is something wrong with the sealing surface of the cylinder head maybe corrosion or pitting on the surface where the o-ring seals. In extreme cases where it continues to leak. you mya want to take off the outlet again and put a small coating of "GOOD" silicone RTV automotive sealer on the o-ring and then install the outlet back into the head. Let it sit for as long as the directions say on the sealer for it to set up. Good luck :}
