Pontiac Repair: G6 Caliper Piston Dust Boot Repair, caliper piston, correct tool

Question
I have a 2006 G6 with a torn right front caliper piston boot.  I ordered the GM replacement seal kit to obtain the new piston boot for repair.  My question is...Is the rubber piston boot contained with a spring or is it held in place by just placing the rubber boot around the piston?  Any advice would be great!  Thanks for your time. EDK

Answer
Hey Ed:

The dust boot it pressed into the caliper with a special tool the outside diameter of the seal is actually the means of which the seal stays in the bore of the caliper. you can try using a brass puch or a plastic dowel to punch it in the only problem is you tap in on one side the opposite side pops out It's a real chore with out the correct tool.. next time you need parts for a caliper I'd look into a remanufactured part you would be surprised how cheaply you can get one if you look around. The rear calipers are not cheap the the front ones are. Good luck :0
