Pontiac Repair: 99 grand prix floods out, fuel pressure regulator, o2 sensor

Question
i have a 99 grand prix. it will start once a day. no more than that. sometimes not even that. it floods after you turn it off. you can smell the fuel. it seems like it is pumping too much gas before the car actually starts. is there something i can check to solve this problem. i was thinking it was either an o2 sensor or maybe the fuel pressure regulator or some sensor to do with that. any help would be much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jerry:

The most likely cause of this would be a fule pressure regulator. After the car has sat pull the rubber hose off the top of the fule pressure regulator If ther is raw fuel in the hose the regualtor is bad. Another cause could be an injector leaking down when the car is turned off. An O2 sensor will not cause this issue. The fact that you can smell the raw fuel is a clue to something is leaking. Good luck :)
