Pontiac Repair: Lost my only keyless remote, pontiac gran prix, gran prix 3

Question
98 Pontiac Gran Prix 3.8L

I had a spare key, so I opened the door and the factory alarm started going off. I disconnected the battery, unlocked all the doors, reconnected the battery, and as soon as I open the door and/or start the engine - the alram is still going off. I called the dealer and they said I would need to have it towed in. I found numerous keyless remote websites and ordered one with program instructions for $50. Questions:
1) Can I just pull a fuse for the horn to disable the alarm in the meantime? The new remote does not arrive for 5 business days.
2) Am I going to be able to program the new remote with the car already in an alarm mode?

The dealer scenario was a $130 tow job, $60+ for the remote, and a minimum .5+ hour labor to program =$300+

Thanks,
Bill

Answer
I think you will be able to program the remote even know the alarm was armed. I'm not to sure on that car is the body control module cuts off the fuel supply to the engine or not. My guess is yes. I don't know if that car for that year has pass key theft or not? I think in 99 or 200 that's when that started so the base body control module alarm is all that your dealing with here.  What I would do is disconnect the battery and leave it sit then follow the directions to programming the remote to the car. sit in the car and have someone connect the battery back up and follow the directions for programming the remote. If it still is armed disconnect the battery and leave it sit again reconnect the battery gently close the hood do not slam it then walk over to the drivers door and unlock the door with the key that should dis arm the alarm I belive on that car.. Good luck :}
