Pontiac Repair: steering column, chevrolet monte carlo, monte carlo ss

QUESTION: i know you have limited advice on older cars but do you know how long the steering column in inches is for an 81-88 grand prix? I am tryin to buy a new one but im not at home im in iraq so i cant measure it myself. And would you kno if a dashmount steering column would work on it?

I don't have much experience on the oldr stuff is right but I have an old "G" body car my self I have a 1987 Monte carlo SS.

QUESTION: YES IM TRYIN TO REPLACEMY OLD COLUMN OUT WITH ONE FROM FLAMMING RIVER. MINES ALL BROKE CAUSE SOMEONE STOLE IT AT ONE POINT FROM THE PREVIOS OWNER AND I'VE BEEN RESTORING IT. I HAVE AN 83 'G' BODY. AND U SEE THE NEW ONE I WANT IS ABOUT $700 BUT IF I CAN REPLACE THAT ONE WITH A DASH MOUNTED COLUMN ITS ONLY ABOUT $350. SO IF I CAN DO IT WITHOUT ALOT OF HASSEL ID RATHER GET OUT CHEAPER. BUT IF NOT I STILL NEED TO KNO THE LENGTH OF THE ORIGNAL COLUMN TO GET THE RIGHT REPLACEMENT FOR IT.

Okay now I know what you are trying to do... I can't help you on the length of the column but you can get one out of any "G" body car Buick Regal, Olds Cutlass, Chevrolet Monte carlo. They should all be the same! The only difference is either floor shift a column shift and also tilt ot standard column. but they should all be the same and the length should all be the same as well. If your still unsure of exactly what you need try this place.

The dealership I work at we deal with them and they are great they have all kinds of used parts and in good shape as well They may be able to answer you question better and may even have what your looking for. They are alos tied into a National used parts inventory so if they don;t have what your looking for they can find it. Good luck Sorry I don't have the right answer for you......
