Pontiac Repair: 1991 Pontiac Trans Sport 3.1 L Idle Loping, pontiac trans sport, vacuum hose

Question
This vehicle has 50,000 original miles.  I drive it to work every day, 70 mile round trip.  Two days ago when I started it in the morning it would not stay running unless I continually feathered the accelerator.  It will lope from 500 rpm to 1500 rpm and then die if I let it idle.  If I try to run it higher it will continue to lope but at higher rpm's.  Once it warms up completely it runs OK, but yesterday it didn't have much power on the return trip.  I thought it might be bad gas, so I topped it off, replaced the air filter, and added fuel injector cleaner.  That didn't help.  It hasn't had a tuneup in a few years.  I inherited it from my father-in-law and it sat in a garage for several years with little use.  I have put about 25,000 miles on it in the last two years.  Any suggestions you may have would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Chuck:

it sound to me like a fule delivery issue. You may have a fuel pressure problem or a restricted fuel filter. It could have a injector problem "Dirty" you could have a vacuum hose leaking it could have a sensor on it's way out causing a bad signal into the engine computer thus driving the fuel delivery off. If it was me I'd change the fuel filter first and give that a try. Another issue those vans had was problems with the distributors the pick up coild in them would go bad and cause all kinds of issues but most common was a no start condition.
