Cadillac Repair: Relay for Headlights, fuse block, jumper wire

Question
I have a 1983 Coupe DeVille.  The head lights went out.  I found in a parts book where there is a relay for the head lights that has a fuse in it. Ive had 3 people look for this relay, and can not locate it.  Can you send me in the general direction?  As only the two headlights do not work, we assumed it was a fuse, and this seems to be the obvious one ... but we can not locate.

Answer
Hi Marianne, In looking at the wiring diagram I can't see a fuse in a relay anywhere. Inside the headlamp switch is a circuit breaker. Also there is a twilight sentinal modual that controls the lights. What do you have...just headlights...w/twilight sentinal...w/guideamatic? If you look in the fuse block by the parking brake pedal there is a fuse labeled tail lic. Also power is sent from fuse link c to the big yellow wire on the switch. Useing a testlight or voltmeter will determine if the fuse link is good. With a car this old it could be the headlamp switch, twilight sentinal module or ground wire at the headlamps. You did check for power at the bulbs and the bulbs are both good right? Sounds like useing a wireing diagram and test equipment might be needed to track the problem down because if you have power and ground at the headlamp switch you could take a jumper wire and with the switch disconnected get the headlamps to turn on. Are both the low and high beams not working? Let me know what your results are if you need more help. Bill
