Pontiac Repair: 1987 pontiac fiero, 1987 pontiac fiero, pontiac fiero

Question
hi Todd i have a 1987 Pontiac fiero 4cyl and my problem is that after a few minutes of the car being on the exhaust manifold gets extremely hot. I've had several mechanics look at it but they don't know what it could be. can you please help!!!! thanks for your time.

Answer
Hey Moe:

Well first off that car had a recall for a heat shield to be put on between the engine and the manifold. Now for the running hot issue... it's more than likely running really hoe due to the fule trim being off. If the car has some kind of a vacuum leak that will throw off the fule trim and the computer will try to compensate for the lask of fuel due to a leak and start adjusting the fuel trim. That is the first thing I would look at. Does the car have an erratic idle? that would also indicate a vacuum leak. Any service engine light on? How about the engine running temp? is the engine running hotter than normal?
