Pontiac Repair: 2002 Pontiac Montana front brake problem, brake pads and rotors, pontiac montana

Question
Hello,

I just installed front brake pads and rotors on 2002 Pontiac Montana Front wheel drive. I didn't note which pad had the wear indicator but it appears after looking at the old pads that one side it was the inboard and the other side it was the outboard.  I installed the pads with the wear indicator as the outboard pad.  Now I back up and there is a metal on metal squeal coming from the front drivers side.  When I drive forward it goes away and comes right back when I turn right.  Any ideas what is causing this.  Do you know if on the Montana's the wear indicator pads are inboard on one side and outboard on the other?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Scott:
Yup the wear indicator goes on the outside pad and it shouls be facing up. if you have them on the wrong side they will be up side down. I doubt that's the cause of the squeeling noise. The tin shims that go onto the caliper bridges that the pads sit in is more than likely the cause either one of them is bent or not pushed into the bridge fully and it rubbing on the rotor. good luck :)
