Pontiac Repair: Pontiac Fan Switch Not Working, rear defroster, pontiac grand prix

Question
Todd,
I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3.8L 6 Cyl Engine - No Turbo Charger.  About a month ago, the fan blower switch would only work in position 5 so I read some articles on the internet and replaced the resistor.  That did not fix the problem and now the blower switch does not work in any position.  Other symptoms include the the Daytime Lights are now occasionally flashing, the Driver Information Center comes on and off intermittently.  The rear defroster switch will not turn on.  I've read where others have mentioned that it could possibly be the ignition wiring harness or ignition switch. ??

Thank you,
John

Answer
Hey John:

I think your on to it. what I would do is with the key in the run position check for FULL battery voltage at all of the fuses. You need a volt meter all of the fuses should have at or near battery volatge with the engine running it should be near 14 volts. with just the key on about 13 volts. if not then you have to start looking for why you are loosing some or all of the potential voltage. Yes the contact in the ignition switch can be the problem and the othet place is the harness thu the fire wall from under the hood inot the car the harness corrodes. Those are 2 REALLY good places to start looking. Good luck :)
