Pontiac Repair: 1994 sunbird, fuel gauge, exchange unit

the fuel gauge does not work. it is reading 1/2 full can it be fixed? thanks elmer

well I think the problemwith this is either the gasuge it's self or the sending unit in the tank. The fact that it's stuck at 1/2 makes me think it's a gauge more than anything else. If it were a wiring issue the gauge woul be pegged past E or F. The sending units usually do not stick so that only leaves the gauge. If you takle this in to get repaired somewhere shops have a tool that they can hook up in place of the snding unit and mimic how much fule is in the tank to see if the gauge moves. The gauge is not serviced seperatly it's part of a dash speedo unit. You can try to get a used on from a junk yard or goto a dealer and they can order you an exchange unit. usually exchange units are between 200-$250.00. good luck.
