Pontiac Repair: thermostat, engine oil pan, easy job

My son has a 1995 grand am 2.3 liter engine, where is the thermostat located and how do you get it out with out taking the engine apart?

Hi Carolyn:

The thermostat is located on the back side of the engine by the fire wall on the bottom of the enegine. ther is a metal pipe that runs under the engine oil pan and the thermostat is in that pipe near the back. ther are only 2 bolts that hold the pipe to the engine and one that holds the pipe to the oil pan. It' really a pretty easy job once you get to the pipe. good luck :)
