Pontiac Repair: 1996 pontiac sunfire, pontiac sunfire, rust belt

Question
change clutch, car ran good before i change clutch still runs good but i smell gas sometimes and gets bad gas mileage  and speed gage  odometer jumps, what did i not do right

Answer
Hey Cecil

well the speedo on that car is electrically driven. ther is a sensor on the transmission that sends the signal to the engine computer then the dash unit. if that is not plugged in right or you pinched a wire or the wire is rubbing on something that would cause a lot of different problems. that sensor on the transmission is on the right side of it "passenger" side of the car. As for the gas smell If it's a raw gas smell it's a leak somewhere those engine from time to time would have injectors leak fuel right out the electrical connectors. take a look there. If you live in the rust belt like I do it could be a rotted gas line back by the tank. I really doubt changing the clutch has anything to do with the gas smell. good luck :)
