Pontiac Repair: Over Heating, intake manifold gasket, electric cooling fan

Question
I have a 2000 Pontiac Montana Van, It had been over heating for about a month and we couldn't figure out what was causing it, I took it to the Car lot where I bought it and they said it was an Auxillary water pump or something of that nature, Do you know what they are talking about?

Answer
Hey Sandy:

Yes that van has an Auxillary water pump but only if it has rear heat in the van. That to the best of my knowledge will not cause an over heat condition. The van is either low on coolant due to a leak like a head gasket or an intake manifold gasket or the engine water pump leaking or the electric cooling fan for the radaitor is not working propely or not at all ot possibly a thermostat that is not opening at the correct temp. I would take the van to a place where ther know what they are doing. It's goning to be one of the fore mentioned issues. Without seeing it I can't say for sure what the issue is. Good luck :}
