Pontiac Repair: oil pressure, pan gasket, pressure oil

Question
i have 2001 ws6 trans am /6speed.about 2 month's ago the car was stolen and they put a hole in the bottom of the oil pan. i had it replaced but now the  will not hold any oil pressure after it warms up

Answer
Hi Michael:

Lets back up.. the oil pna had a hole knocked in to it and the oil was either drained out or was low.... was the car ran while low on oil or no oil in it? If so then the issue is the engine need to be taken our and torn down because being ran with not or low oil level more than likely damaged the engine. If it was not run then there is a possablity that the oil pressure is leaing between the block and the oil pan. the oil pan gasket has a passage seal between the block and the oil pan the pressure could be leaking right there. Also are you sure it has low pressure or are you just going by the dash gauge? Did you actually check it for pressure with a mechanical gauge? here are the specs for the oil pressure:

Oil Pressure - Minimum - Hot
41 kPa at 1,000 engine RPM

124 kPa at 2,000 engine RPM

165 kPa at 4,000 engine RPM
6 psig at 1,000 engine RPM

18 psig at 2,000 engine RPM

24 psig at 4,000 engine RPM

Good luck :}
