Pontiac Repair: stalls and then need to pump gas sometimes for restart, air control valve, pontiac bonneville

Question
I have a 1990 Pontiac bonneville with 3880. it stalls at times and occasionally doesn't want to restart unless i pump the accelerator good fuel pump and relay, could this be the idle air control valve? and if so where is it located?

Answer
Hey Chris:

Pumpump the gas has nothing to do withit re starting. when the car dies what does it do? Does it die driving down the road or at a stop light? does it chug and stutter then die or does it just die like somone turned off the key? it makes a difference. it it chugs it could be an idle control valve or it's looking fuel pressure. it it just dies it could be a ignition issue where it's looking spark. The idle control valve is attached to the throttle body assembly it has 4 wires going into it. they are blue and green. The colors of the wires. You need to look at fule pressure when it dies and also to check to see if it's loosing spark. That year car also had an issue with bad engine comouters. But you need to find the actual problem before you just start guessing and putting parts on this. You can get a spark checker at any car cars store. At least is a few places to start looking.
