Pontiac Repair: 1989 gp, work tomorrow, oil filter

I need to replace the starter, i have it loose buy there is no way to get it out.  Looks like I have to remove the oil filter. Is that the way to remove it?  Please reply this is urgent need car for work tomorrow.

Yes It's tight to get it out. In order to get the nose out and clear of the transmission you need to take off the filter to get enough room to get the thing out of there. You also have to wrestle to get it out past the frame as well. Good luck :}
