Pontiac Repair: brake drums?, wheel bearings, tire brakes

Question
hello, i own a 1996 Pontiac transport 3400.  we replaced the back wheel bearings on both side because they were bad.  now that they have been replaced, when driving it still makes the same noise(as a bad wheel bearing).  All that is on the back is the tire, brakes and drums, wheel bearing and straight axle that spins.  Would brake drums make the noise and vibration if they are out of round? (all tires are balanced)

Answer
Hey Johnnie:

Well first off they were both bad?? That is highly unusual. They rarely go bad on one side let alone both sides.A few things... #1 Yes if the druns are out of round they can make a god awful noise when the brakes are applied. If when you replaced the hubs you got dirt caught between the hub/backing plates and the axle tube than that throws off the "truness" of the rotating mass. so then the drums can run on the backing plates and then make all kinds of noise and chatter etc. None of the brake parts are ging to make a whell bearing drone/grind/hum noise that can only be one source the bearings them selfves. Hope that helps you out :}
