Pontiac Repair: ignition cyclinder with key in will not turn or come out of park, lock smith, lock cylinder

I HAVE A 1998 GRAND AM SE 2.4 THE KEY WILL NOT TURN TO THE ON POST. AND IT WILL NOT COME OUT OF PARK.

Yup this is a pretty common problem. the lock cylinder in the column has gone bad. More than liklely the retainer that holds in the tumblers has popped out and when you turn the cylinder that retainer is making the cylinder bind up. Ther is a pretty indepth process to get it out. it' a job for either the dealer or a lock smith. It's not a job for the do it your self person sorry to say. Good luck :)
