Pontiac Repair: Strut & mount Replacement., rear shocks, pontiac sunfire

Question
The car in question. 97 pontiac sunfire 2 door 2.2 liter.

I recently replaced the rear shocks/struts and mounts. The problem is that they never came completely tight. so now ehn i drive it the washers are rattling around. Am i missing a part?  I noticed there was no boot with the new shock, was it something i can get seperatley. and do i need an additional spacer at the top where it comes up through the trunk?
or do i simply need to tighten it up somehow?

Any input is appreciated ... thanks ....

Answer
Hey david:

You should have transfered all the old parts over from the old shocks to the new ones. Spacers and rubber jounce bumpers. You can get all of them seperate if you didn't swap the parts over and and you threw out the old ones. On those old er ones the mounts would go bad. The center section where the rod goes thgough the center of the mount would either break right off or would become loose in the mount causing noise. Without seeing them It's hard to tell what's going on. The springs in the rear of that car are not all that strong. You can usually push down on the mount enough to remove the nut for the mount with out having to use a spring compressor. If when it out of the car and the spring is chucking up and down in between the bottom seat for the spring and the mount there is something wrong you forgot something or you got the wrong shocks and the rod is to long??? to the best of my knowledge the coupe and sedan use the same shocks. The springs are different I would imagine though. good luck :}
