Pontiac Repair: hard to start after it sits awhile, grand prix gtp, 2004 grand prix gtp

if the car sits a few hours, you have to crank it a few times to get it to start and then sometimesit will stutter then rev up. or if you turn on the key and let it set for about 5 seconds it will usally start on the first try. just replalced the filter but no change. could it be the pump??

Hey Clint:

there is a few things it could be. The throttle body could be all carboned up and it will cause all kinds of idle issues. You could have a fule pump that is slow to build up pressure. You could have fuel injectors that are bleeding pressure off into the engine and it's running to rich when it starts up. You could have a bad fuel pump where the pressure bleeds back into the tank when the caris turned off. You could have a a bad engine ground wire under the battery that ground gets all corroded up and cause all kinds of issues from engine running to dash lights flickering. Lastly there is a software update for the engine control computer to address multiple cold driveability issues. Good luck :}
