Pontiac Repair: 98 bonneville 3800 engine 3.8L, replacing head gaskets, possability

Question
After replacing head gaskets and up, my valves will not close all the way at top dead center. Therefore I have little or no compression. Did my push rods grow or my heads shrink? Any ideas as to what I should look for?

Answer
Hey Deva:

well it can be a few things. if you had the head shaved down to true them up if the heads were warped. If you have the valve ground or the valve seats ground and they didn't crop back the valves at the ends. You could have thinner head gaskets then the OEM ones. The lifters could be pumped up if you washed down the block with cleaner/solvent and the lifters were still in the block that is a possability. The push rods on that engine are all the same size so that's not a possability that they are in the wrong spots like a 3400 engine.. You torqued down the rocker arms to the proper spec? these are the only Ideas I have at this moment. Hope it helps some. Good luck :}
