Pontiac Repair: starting problems, advance auto parts, battery gauge

i have 1996 grand prix with 3.1 engine.i bought a new alternator and battery and my car will ride for a few hours and then  it will cut off.i have to take my battery out and get it charge and then it will ride for another few hours.

You car dies because the battery goes dead? you charge it back up and it runs okay again??? for some reason the battery is not getting charged back up from the aletrantor. when it's running is the battery light on on the dash baord or if this car has fulle gauges does the battery gauge show low voltage?? whe you get it running take it to a place wlike auto zone or advance auto parts or even orieleys depending on what part of the country you live in they will check your battery and alternator for free and tell you if it's not charging properly. good luck :}
