Pontiac Repair: 2003 pontiac grand prix se, windshield wipers, pontiac grand prix

i turned my windshield wipers on, they did not work. they raised maybe a inch and made a thumb noise and layed back down. if i raise them up manually and lay them on the windshield they flip off the side of the car when i turn them on. looking for suggestions.  wiper motor ?, wiper pulse board? thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Angela:

I think either the wiper arms are stripped on the wiper transmission "linkage" or the transmission is bent. Do you live in snow country and did you turn them off when they were frozen to the window?Is so for sure that's what happened. The noise is the transmission binding up on something. Good luck :)
