Pontiac Repair: Interior overhead light problem, jam switches, latch assembly

2001 Grand Am.4 cyl. When the switch is set to door(meaning the  light goes on/off when you open/close the door)the light stays on and won't shut off. What do you think is wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks

Hi Patty:

It can be a few things. Either the switch in the dome lamp is bad,the body control module is bad keeping the lamp on or one of the door jam/lock switches has goone bad. Most of the time it's a jam/lock switch that has gone bad. to find it it's a process of elimination the sitches have to be disconnected 1 and a time untill the lamp goes out. if this is a 4 door the rear door jam switches are on the body the front doors the switches are inside the doors on the latch assembly. good luck :}
