Pontiac Repair: ignition key lock, gear indicator, volt meter

i recently posted a question saying i can't remove the key from the ignition. i was told to check the plugs in the shifter. i looked and hooked it up. the only thing that did was leave the gear indicator light on. if you have any ideas please let me know.

I assume this is a Grand prix? where there broken wires at the connector? if this is a grand prix the issue is usually the switch in the shifter is bad or the wires are broken off the connector. in VERy rare cases I have seen ignition switches go bad where that switch in the shiftre is not getting a full 12 volts and not allowing the solenoid to work and allow you to turn the key off. check to see if you have a full 12 volts at that connector on the sifter with a volt meter and a test tight. good luck :}
