Pontiac Repair: 95 pontiac grand prix 3.1, crank sensor, pontiac grand prix

Question
I have a running issue. The car will run for about 4 minutes and then stall. It wont start again for close to 12 hours. The car has no spark. Any ideas?

Answer
Hey Joshua:

well it's one of a few things. When it quits running check to make sure the igniton module has a good ground and full battery voltage going to the module. Those wires are the pink and balck wires in the small connector on the passenger side of the module. If it has power and ground the next thing to check is the crank sensor that is the other small connector on the module on the drivers side it has a purple and a yellow wire in it. Check the resistance across the 2 wires it should be somewhere between 800 and say 1800 Ohms if too little or too much the sensor is bad. If it tests okay check the voltage across the 2 wires while cranking the car on an ac voltage scale it should have some reading above say 100 MV if it has that I would say it's the module that has failed.  good luck :}
