Pontiac Repair: Coolant Flush, heater hoses, grand prix 3

Question
Hi Todd
 How do I find out which way the coolant flows? Also how to do a proper coolant flush for a 1990 Grand Prix 3.1 liter engine.
.................Thanks Mike

Answer
Hi Mike:

The coolant enters the engine at the water pump "lower" hose and exits the engine out the thermostat housing top hose. You can get one of those prestone flush liks you have to cut one of the heater hoses and insert it in the hose and a garden hose attaches to it. They work okay but thye wind up leaking. I would have it done at a place that has a reverse flush machine. doing your self is a pain and makes a mess and you have to dispose of the old coolant properly it's highly toxic especially if you have pets outside or kids. Withe a reverse flusher none of the hoses have to be cut. Good luck :}
